Welcome
Berkeley Broadway Singers (BBS) is a 75-member community chorus, founded in 1998, under the music direction of Ellen Hoffman. We sing songs from Broadway shows and movie musicals with a strong dash of standards from the Great American Songbook, nostalgic tunes from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, as well as jazz, Latin, doo-wop, blues, and other popular music. Many of our songs are arranged by Ellen for BBS.

Our repertoire includes Broadway tunes, such as Oklahoma and Seasons of Love, blues like Kansas City and classics such as Begin the Beguine. We cover many terrific 20th century popular songs, not only those written by Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter and the Gershwins, but also artists like Smokey Robinson, Luis Bonfa, Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney. There's something for everyone! (Check out our repertoire!)

Our goal is to provide a joyful and creative music experience for both our members and our audiences. Our concerts are free. We love to sing! And, we strive to reach a large community that is diverse in age, race and ethnicity.

Welcome to the Berkeley Broadway Singers home page!

CONCERTS
Spring 2008: Special 10th Anniversary Concerts!
Ellen and we singers have started our final push for our very special tenth anniversary concerts, which are set for this weekend, Saturday, April 12 at St. Ambrose at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, April 13 at St. Augustine's at 4:00 pm. For our dedicated fans, we'll see you there!

FLASH ... this just in!! As part of our celebration, BBS has been invited to participate in a concert hall performance of Stephen Sondheim's Follies at the Paramount Theater in Oakland on Friday, May 16th (8:00 pm) and Sunday May 18 at 2:00 pm. Forty of us have signed on to perform with the Oakland East Bay Symphony, and as if that wasn't enough, with Rita Moreno and Val Diamond!! Wow, are we honored to have been chosen! To find out more, and to order tickets go to http://www.oebs.org/page/may16.htm

So ... where were we?? Oh, in honor of the anniversary, at our BBS concert in April we plan to reprise some of our favorite numbers from the past ten years. The chorus has voted on a large number of possible candidates, and Ellen has made a final selection from the top vote-getters. Some of these songs will have new arrangements; as well, we'll be doing three of the songs from Stephen Sondheim's Follies. Just for fun, go back to our repertoire page and listen to the way we did these reprise songs before!
