Music Director Ellen Hoffman
Ellen HoffmanMulti-talented Ellen Hoffman, Music Director of the Berkeley Broadway Singers, is also a jazz pianist, choral director, songwriter and recording artist, classical composer, and vocal coach.

As a jazz pianist, she directed the Jazz Singers Open Mike in Berkeley at Anna's Bistro. She has accompanied Mark Murphy, Pharaoh Sanders, Diane Schuur, Bobby McFerrin, and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Long-time faculty member and former Music Director of Jazz Camp West, she has been artist-in-residence at several Bay Area schools including SF School of the Arts, Berkeley Arts Magnet, College Preparatory School (Oakland), and San Francisco City College. She has performed at music festivals all over the country, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, the Russian River Jazz Festival, and the White House in Washington, D.C. Her recordings include "Daydreams" and "Anna's Home Brew."

In addition to her choral work with BBS, Ellen has been an accompanist for the Oakland Youth Chorus and the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir. Her compositions have been performed by groups including the Atlanta Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Vallejo Symphony, the Oakland Symphony Chorus, the Columbus Ohio Symphony, the U C Berkeley Chamber Ensemble, the University of Indiana Chamber Singers, the Oakland Youth Chorus, Oakland Jazz Choir, and the Oakland East Bay Symphony.
