CONCERTS
Fall 2010
We're very busily putting the final touches on the songs for our Spring concerts on Saturday, April 24 at 8:00pm at St. Ambrose Church in Berkeley (Gilman @Cornell), and Sunday, April 25 at 4:00pm at St. Augustine Church in North Oakland (Alcatraz @Colby). Mark your calendar; schedule the sitter! Should be a blast!!

Our "Guest Conductor" this season is Trente Morant, a long-time colleague and friend of Ellen. He has already been diligently working with us on some fabulous arrangements, as only Trente can do. This multi-talented man is well known as a conductor, arranger, accompanist and performer, and many current BBS singers were very fortunate to perform with him in May 2008 in two performances of the Oakland East Bay Symphony (OEBS) concert production of Stephen Sondheim's Follies. Trente has conducted in both the Monterey and San Francisco Jazz Festivals, sang the role of the Swan in Carmina Burana with the Oakland Ballet, and performed the role of Sportin' Life in a concert version of Porgy and Bess with OEBS. He also served as vocal director for productions of Ragtime, Oklahoma, Hello Dolly, Beauty and the Beast, and King and I at the Woodminster Theater. For 19 years, he worked with the Oakland Youth Chorus, and was a three-time recipient of an Artist in Residence grant from the California Arts Council. He also conducted choral performances and workshops with Bobby McFerrin, Charlie Haden, Nancy Wilson, Ed Kelly, Keith Terry, Linda Tillery, Jon Hendricks, Pete Seeger, and Voicestra. What a plus for us! And, in addition, we will have the always-capable and tuneful leadership of our own chorus member and long-time choral director, Eddie Anderson, on one of our songs as well.

Music Director Ellen Hoffman has assembled a marvelous collection of new songs (for us!) for Spring 2010. The final list of songs, and their order -- including ensemble numbers where indicated -- will be the following:

Look for the Silver Lining, with soloist
Razzle Dazzle
'Deed I Do
I Wonder Why, duet
It's a Sin to Tell a Lie, trio
More I Cannot Wish You, directed by Eddie Anderson
In a Mellow Tone, with two soloists
A Handful of Keys
Will you Still Love me Tomorrow, duet
Waters of March, trio
One Short Day
For Good
'Deed I Do, Audience Sing Along
Kiss Today Goodbye, solo by Trente Morant
That Old Black Magic
Come Rain or Come Shine
(Other choral soloists TBD)

We always appreciate your enthusiastic support of our concerts. It always makes us work harder to keep you happy.

Hope to see you at one or the other of our concerts --- maybe both??!
